Special Clinical Programs - For Acute stroke patients. Team comprises of two residents, a PGY2 and PGY3/4, Critical Care Crisis RN, CT Tech, Transport Nursing Supervisor, and an attending physician. The Neurology Resident on stroke team is called in on the stroke pager for anticipated arrival of the patient in the ER or for a patient already in the ER. For anticipated arrivals, the resident is present before the patient touches ground in the ER or he/she must respond to bedside within 5 minutes. If patient is thought to be having a stroke then stroke team is activated immediately. The resident orders labs, CT or MRI, EKG if needed. He /she accompanies the patient from his arrival into the Scanner while taking history and examining the patient. Evaluation of the patient is based on the NIH stroke scale .The senior resident and the attending evaluate CT or MRI scan and determine if tPA criteria is met or if Neurosurgery/ Neuroradiology needs to be consulted. They confirm NIHSS and write tPA orders if appropriate after communication and consent with the patient's family. Sleep Disorder Center and the Clinical Neurophysiology/EEG Lab If you have trouble sleeping, you're not alone. Sleep disorders are quite common. Fifty million to 100 million Americans suffer from a sleeping problem at some time in their lives. A large proportion of people experiencing sleep disorders (three of every 10) have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep. Another 10 percent or more have difficulty with excessive sleep. At least 10 million people with sleep problems seek medical help from a physician each year. The Sleep Disorders Center offers the services of neurologists who are specially trained in understanding, diagnosing and treating sleep disorders.
