| Residency ProgramCurriculum and Rotations
We have a fully accredited residency program in Adult Neurology and we offer one position for a Sleep Medicine fellow. The training opportunities are provided at the University of Missouri Hospital and Clinics and at the Harry S Truman VA Hospital, just across the street from the UMC. Residents have beautiful swamp area with all computer facilities and online connections from that area. More information about our Neurology Residency Program is available.
Resident rotations and activities are as per the guidelines and requirements of the American Board of
Psychiatry &
Neurology. Rotations include time at both the University Medical Center (MU) and Harry S. Truman Veteran Affairs
Hospital(VA) just across the street from the UMC.
Medicine - PGY1
Residents rotate in various electives and wards with the Department of Internal Medicine. The electives covered include
Nephrology, Pulmonary medicine, Infectious disease, Rheumatology, Cardiology and other medicine sub-specialties. Floor
time includes ward months on MU and VA with urgent care and MICU blocks.
Neurology - PGY2
PGY2 is spent with extensive clinical training in ward blocks at the UMC and VA. The rotations are closely supervised by
attending and senior residents with senior residents on constant back up on call days.
Neurology - PGY3 & PGY4
The residents rotate through neuropathology, neuroopthalmology, pediatric neurology, EEG , EMG, psychiatry, Pain , PM &
R , research and consult blocks. Residents can also do an away rotation at premier institutes like Washington
University, St. Louis .
Benefits and Compensation
Stipends are adjusted annually. For the Academic Year 2006-07 the stipends are as follows:

Application requirements
- Beginning July 1, 2006, the Neurology residency program match will be handled through the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP). NRMP's website is http:///www.nrmp.org. Students may register with the NRMP beginning in July.
- Students applying to our program will also need to register with ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service). Residency applications, recommendation letters, transcripts, etc., will be sent to our program through ERAS. The ERAS website is http://www.aamc.org/audienceeras.htm. Applicants may begin accessing ERAS July 1, 2006.
- Experience in the United States is preferred. This may be in the form of Clinical Training, Clinical Research,
Externships and Observerships. The University of Missouri-Columbia does not offer externships or observerships .
- We prefer passing USMLE scores of 80 or above, but we also take into account applicant.s prior training and
experience.
- We will consider applicants with immigration status of U.S. Citizens ,permanent residents ,H-1 visa eligible or J-1
visa eligible candidates.
- The deadline for submitting applications is December 1, 2006, however, late fees will apply after this date with the latest registration deadline being February 21, 2007.
- Interviews are conducted typically on two or three days and are scheduled for December 2006 and January 2007.
- One year of clinical training in internal medicine is required for entry into the Neurology Residency Training
Program. In cooperation with the Department of Medicine, PGY-1 positions in general internal medicine are provided for
continuity of clinical training in medicine and neurology. Separate applications need not be sent to the Department of
Medicine for these positions but it is essential for you to participate in ERAS and NRMP to match.

The department will make arrangements for your stay at a hotel the night before the interview.
- What would be a typical interview day like?
Typical interview day would involve brief interviews with the faculty members and the residents and a guided tour of the
hospital and clinic facility. Lunch would be provided.
